Shattila Ekadashi

Falls on the dark eleventh of Magha. The Puranas prescribe various sesame-related rites (sesame bath, sesame charity, sesame homa) for this vrata — the name 'Shattila' means the use of six kinds of sesame. According to the Brahmavaivarta Purana, observing this vrata frees one from past sins and poverty.
