Buddha Purnima

On the full moon of the bright fortnight of Vaishakha (May 1), the birth, enlightenment, and final nirvana of Gautama Buddha are believed to have all occurred on this same Purnima in the Buddhist tradition. Lamps are lit at Buddhist temples, offerings are made to monks, and a full-moon fast is observed.
