Dol Purnima (Holi)

The festival of colors observed on the full moon of Phalguna, known in Bengal as 'Dolyatra' or 'Basantotsav' (spring festival). It commemorates Radha-Krishna's swing festival, with the custom of playing with abir (colored powder) and colors. The Basantotsav at Shantiniketan is especially famous. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's appearance day (Gaura Purnima) is also observed on this same tithi.
