Makar Sankranti (Poush Sankranti)

Celebrated on the day the Sun enters Capricorn. In Bengal it is known as 'Poush Sankranti' and is celebrated as a festival of making pithe-puli (rice cakes) in homes. A large fair and holy bath take place at Gangasagar on this day.
