Poila Boishakh (Bengali New Year)

The Bengali New Year, the first day of the year 1433 of the Bengali calendar. Celebrated in West Bengal the day after Mesha Sankranti at sunrise (the Sankranti falls on April 14 at approximately 9:39 AM). The custom of Halkhata (opening new account books), wearing new clothes, and distributing sweets is followed on this day.
