Sharad Navratri (Day 1)

The nine-night Sharad Navratri begins on the Pratipada tithi of the bright fortnight of Ashwin (October 11) — a festival of worshipping the nine forms of goddess Durga, continuing until Vijayadashami. Outside Bengal, the Ghatasthapana, the uninterrupted lamp (akhand jyoti), and a nine-day fast are observed during this Navratri across India.
