Deity
Dattatreya
Dattatreya is the combined avatar of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, the son of the sages Atri and Anasuya. He is depicted with three heads, accompanied by a cow, a dog, and twenty-four teachers; his highest teaching is collected in the Avadhuta Gita. He is regarded as a preceptor of both Vedanta and tantra, and devotees worship him as the giver of attainments (siddhis). Datta Jayanti, on the full moon of Margashirsha, is celebrated as his appearance festival.
