Durga

Durga is the goddess of power and motherhood, said in the Devi Mahatmyam (part of the Markandeya Purana) to have manifested from the combined radiance of the gods to slay the buffalo demon Mahishasura. She is depicted with ten arms bearing weapons gifted by different deities, and rides a lion. In Bengal, the autumn Durga Puja is the year's largest festival, imagining her as a daughter returning from Kailash to her parental home, accompanied by Lakshmi, Saraswati, Ganesha, and Kartik.
