Shitala

Shitala is the goddess who cures smallpox and skin fevers, especially revered in Bengal and North India. She is depicted riding a donkey, holding a winnowing fan and sometimes a broom — symbols of sweeping away disease. Her name itself means 'cool' or 'cold'. Her puja is held in the hot season, especially on Shitala Shashthi (Jamai Shashthi), and offerings are generally vegetarian and cooling in nature.
