Vrata
Guruvar Vrata
Thursday (Guruvar) is the day of the planet Jupiter (Brihaspati, the guru), and the day is also considered dear to Goddess Lakshmi. In Bengal the 'Lakshmibar vrata' is observed in homes every Thursday — this vrata is kept for wealth and happiness in the home through the satisfaction of Goddess Lakshmi.
Rules
On Thursday, after a morning bath, Lakshmi puja is performed with yellow clothing and offerings; the day is kept with a fast or a simple meal, and the fast is broken in the evening after the puja with fruits and sweets. Lotus or yellow flowers and curd-sweets are offered in the puja.
Benefits
Devotees believe this vrata, through Lakshmi's grace, maintains wealth, good fortune, and family peace in the home.
