Vrata
Somvar Vrata
Monday is Shiva's favourite day, and this vrata, dedicated to the worship of Shiva and Parvati, is a popular weekly observance. Unmarried women keep it wishing for a husband like Shiva, and married women for the welfare of their homes. The Somvar vrata is extremely common in Bengal and North India.
Rules
The custom is to perform Shiva puja on Monday morning (usually before noon), keep a fast through the day, and break it in the evening with milk, fruit, or a simple meal. In some regions there is also a practice of worshipping after seeing the Monday moon.
Benefits
Devotees believe the Somvar vrata brings marital happiness, the fulfilment of wishes, and protection from untimely death through the blessings of Shiva and Parvati.
