Chandi

Chandi, or Chandika, is the fierce form of the goddess Durga and the chief goddess of the Devi Mahatmyam (Chandi Path). In this text of seven hundred verses she slays the demons Chanda and Munda and destroys the army that springs from each drop of blood of the demon Raktabija — hence her name Chandi. During Navratri, the Chandi Path on Saptami, Ashtami, and Navami is regarded as especially auspicious, and her worship is common at Shakti Pithas and Durga temples.
