On the full moon of Ashwin (five days after Vijaya Dashami of Durga Puja), Lakshmi Puja is held in homes across Bengal — distinct from and observed on a different day than the Lakshmi Puja of Diwali celebrated across the rest of India. 'Kojagari' means 'who is awake' — it is believed that on this night the goddess Lakshmi travels the earth and blesses those who stay awake.
