Akshaya Tritiya Vrata

Observed on the bright third of Vaishakha, the word 'Akshaya' in the name of this vrata means 'imperishable' — charity, penance, and auspicious acts done on this day are believed to bear fruit that never diminishes. The day is also regarded as supremely auspicious for beginning new undertakings (marriage, house-warming, new business).

Rules

After a morning bath, Surya and Vishnu are worshipped; charity (water, sesame, grain, cloth) is the main element of the day. Many keep a fast with a resolve and break it in the evening.

Benefits

Devotees believe the merit of charity and good deeds done on this day remains imperishable and brings prosperity and good fortune in life.
