Savitri Vrata
A women's vrata observed in remembrance of the story of Savitri and Satyavan from the Mahabharata, where Savitri won her husband back even from death itself. Married women keep this vrata on the new moon of Jaishtha (in Bengal) or the full moon of Vaishakha-Jaishtha (in India) for their husbands' long life and protection from misfortune.
Rules
A day-long fast is kept, and the vrata is broken after worshipping symbols of Savitri with offerings such as whole rice or curd-rice (in the Bengali custom) or seven kinds of cooked rice, rice, and vermilion; telling and hearing the story of Savitri is also part of the vrata.

Devotees believe this vrata secures a husband's long life, a happy married life, and the welfare of the family — kept as a symbol of resolve as firm as Savitri's.
